Royalty Day

I don’t care how badly it starts, a royalty day is always a good day. The kids can whine, you can be suffering from lack of sleep, you can have the worst writer’s block ever—but when there’s a royalty check in the mail, it automatically becomes a good day. Particularly when you aren’t expecting it. Particularly when it’s in the triple digits.

Now, I am sure that there are scads of more experienced writers and composers out there who think that triple digits is nothing to get excited about. But to me, that check says that a hundred people—so far—have thought that something I put down on staff paper was worth taking home and playing. It’s a hundred lives my music has touched. Some of them I know; some I will never meet. But to each and every one, I say: thank you.
